In 15th century Europe merchant ships sailing through ice berg laden waters would have to break the ice in order to clear a safe sailing route.
15世紀にヨーロッパの貿易船が流氷の中を進む際に、文字通りに氷を砕いて安全に進む様子が由来です。その後、口火を切ってスムースに会話をする事を意味するようになりました。
